Ideas for Facilitation (Teaching isn't all lecturing anymore!)

  1. Creatives in Singapore discuss the topic of the evening.
Leader shares info. Offers notes. (Suggestion for this in the future: With many of the gals choosing the smaller notebook, can we print our notes in landscape mode with 2 columns? That way we can cut in half and paste in the notebook later.)
  2. Invite participants to share their highlights from reading the assigned chapter
  3. Ask a question (or 2 or 3) to think about quietly.
  4. You can then have them debrief in groups of 3 (if some groups have 4 then usually one person gets shortchanged on time)
  5. Group people of like-mindedness on something (it’s great if you can come up with categories to tie it in to the a topic). When they are together in their groups: share personal application or do some other activity that reinforces or expands the learning.
  6. Let groups of 3 or more come up with ideas/examples of the topic. In the case of Imperfection, personal examples are the best.
  7. Ask an individual to read a section of the text.
  8. Ask the group to read aloud together a particularly special quote or Scripture verse.
  9. Any other ideas?

These are just some ideas to get your creative juices flowing on how to facilitate when you lead.
When Jim and I teach, we make a guess how long each element will take (I especially have a hard time keeping track of time)

We usually use a framework of starting with something devotional, then equal parts: teaching/sharing as a group/discussing in 2-3s/and individual reflection.

I don’t know that the individual reflection works very well with a group of women and when we only have a couple hours together

And, these are just some ideas that have worked with us, to spark ideas for you if you don’t want to/or fear “teaching” the whole time!
