Using Drama in Sunday School. Cross Cultural w Translations. Full Day Workshop 9-5PM

Plans for the Schedule:

Part 1. (9:00-12:00 3 hours)

INTRO teaching (9:00, 5 min)
Today we hope to accomplish 4 things:

1. Learn some drama skills (projection, using all of the body, creating pictures, soundscapes)
2.Writing plays based on Bible stories. (Hiding Moses as a baby, stopping Egyptian from Beating Jew, Plagues, the Red Sea crossing) Where is the action?
3.Writing and Performing these stories in different ways. 4. Debrief

WARM UP large group together activity large group (9:05, 45 minutes) ACTING 

MOVEMENT & VOICE STRETCHING VOCALIZE
aCTING CREATING CHARACTERS
THE WAY YOU WALK, (all in a circle) observation
show me chest first....head first...feet first... Knees... ...shy,... silly,... athletic,... old, ... scared, ... injured,... clumsy... proud,...robot,... in a hurry, under a low table. falling asleep. (10 min)
THE WAY YOU TALK, Say this line after I tell you one of the characters:
"Me? Really? I think maybe you have the wrong person!” "What are you doing?"
Put these emotions on cards in the language of group and pass out cards. Now say it again with one of these emotions: Surprised...in pain...nervous...giggling... out of breath...sleepy...extremely excited...hurt feelings... angry... scared...embarrassed...suspicious. . (10 min)

ESTaBLISH 4 teams. Who will work together for the day? (9:25, 5 min) Children audience age:1. younger primary, 2. pre teen, 3. teens, 4. Performed by children

CARRY & DISPOSE. Full glass of hot water. Heavy tray of expensive crystal goblets. Poopy diaper.Angry toddler who doesn't want to go. Bomb. (10min) DIAMOND ENSEMBLE (4s) (20 min)

PART 2. THE STORY.

TAG TEAM STORY listening, sharpens quick thinking skills):
Going around the circle,embellish a well known Bible story.“Once upon a time...”You can stop and start in the middle of sentences,and pass the story to the next person.Try to keep the rhythm of the story going without pauses, and keep it interesting and lively.

STYLES & METHODS of PRESENTInG DRAMAS
have one group demonstrate: teaching demonstrate
NARRATIVE V (10:45, 10 min) don't forget Sound Effects!
Teach this by making up a short sample: (10:55, 20 min)
Audience Participation: assign actions, and repeated word/words, lines Who'll be : Best Narrator, dictation, lead actions
Group Decide actions, rhyming or repeated words
Presentation (try 2-3 times diff narrators) (11:15, 20-30 min)

LUNCH & REST (12:00-1:30)
Teaching if time allows some before lunch.


Soundtrack. Silent Movie. Only, acted out using sounds no words. Mimes and one musician.
Slide Show/tableaux. "Curtain up" "Curtain down"
Simple sketch,
repeated w Slow, fast, and backward Motion.
Three sentence story. Group decides on "Chapters" announces each ch one at a time as they are acted out.
4 Elements cloth, movement, music, words.
TEACHING (1:30, 30 min) Continue teaching styles.

Part 3. GROUP WORK (2:00, 40 min) 

Part 4. PRESENTATIONS (2:45, 1+ hour) 

Part 5. DEBRIEF (4:10, 20 min)
