REALLY it is YVONNE'S list. She had trouble posting this week: 1) Cinema Paradiso Protagonist – Salvatore Antagonist – The ‘Town Square’ which represents poverty and the mindset of the little provincial town Conflict – in order to be someone different, Salvatore needs to leave the town he grew up in & Alfredo, a father figure he loves Theme – Friendship, growing up, love Beginning – Salvatore, a successful film director, returns to his native Sicilian village for the funeral of his old friend, Alfredo. Middle- His return also brings back poignant memories of his teenage love, Elena, whom he had to leave in order to pursue his dream. End – Salvatore discovers a reel of film Alfredo left behind for him.
2) Norwegian Wood – Haruki Murakami Protagonist – Toru Watanabe Antagonist – indecisiveness Theme – Coming to terms with life’s loves and losses. Conflict – Toru’s inner struggles between what he wants, what happened in the past and what is before him. Beginning – Toru hears a Beatle song and recalls his first love, Naoko, the girlfriend of his best friend Kizuki. Middle – Toru is transported back almost 20yrs to his student days in Tokyo, adrift in a world of uneasy friendships, casual sex, passion, loss and desire – to a time when an impetuous young woman called Midori marches into his life and he has to choose between his future and his past. End – Toru finally faces up to the reality that both Kizuki and Naoko had died, reconciles with his own struggles, and decides to move on with life.
3) Love in the Time of Cholera – Gabriel Garcia Marquez Protagonist – Florentino Ariza Antagonist – Dr Juvenal Urbino (who stands for everything good in the LatAm society; rich, affluent, respectable) Conflict – Florentino is in love with a woman who cannot love him back for 50 years. Theme – Epic take of love and (very unrealistic) courtship Beginning Middle End
4) An Affair to Remember Protagonist – Nicky Ferrante & Terry Mckay Antagonist – Conflict – Terry did not show up even though the couple has agreed to meet 6 months later. Theme – love Beginning- Nicky & Terry meet on an ocean liner headed for New York and fall deeply in love. Although each is engaged to someone else, they agree to meet six months later at the top of the Empire State Building if they still feel the same way about each other. Middle – Nicky & Terry went on to improve themselves so they can be better persons when they meet their soulmates again 6 months later. When the time has come for them to meet, Terry didn’t show up. End – Nicky & Terry met again after a long time. Nicky then realizes the reason behind Terry’s no-show at the Empire State Building.
5) The Tears of my Soul Protagonist – Sokreaksa S Himm Antagonist – Khmer Rouge Conflict – Khmer Rouge killed almost all of Sokreaksa’s family and he is left behind to survive, and to live on bravely and to forgive. Theme – Forgiveness Beginning – When Cambodia fell to the Khmer Rouge in 1975, Sokreaksa’s family was forced to join the exodus to the jungle villages. As the Khmer Rouge soldiers consolidated their grip, the deaths increased. Middle – Finally the day came when the family was marched to a grave ready dug in a jungle clearing; one by one they fell and died. Sokreaksa, gravely wounded, was covered by the bodies of his brothers and sisters End – Sokreaksa was later adopted by a Canadian family and came to know Jesus. He learnt to forgive even though the hatred was deep in his heart. He finally went back to Cambodia after many years to preach the good news.

New to her is the role of Shepherd to prisoners who call Chattanooga home. Through Chattanooga Endeavors "Stephen's Table" volunteers, she corresponds with them, and ministers to their families. She's looking for more volunteers to write those on the waiting list!
With her husband Jim, they open their home for personal retreats.
