Day 3: Story, Character & Dialogue
Fill in the Play Idea Worksheet
Using the lists of values you hold, issues that are important to you, your lifes influential experiences, brainstorm ideas for plays.
2:40-3:30 Lecture about Characters
Brainstorm idiosyncrasies, personality traits.
1. The audience will learn about your character by what he says/does, and what he doesn't say or do.
2. Also by what others in the play say about him or how they treat him.
3. Your audience can only know as much about the characters as YOU know about them. If you don't know them all WELL, they will be cardboard, and boring.
4. Characters are not ALL GOOD or ALL BAD. Everyone is a mix of strengths and weaknesses. Know what these are. Include them in your play.
5. Your protagonis should be likeable (or no one will care what happens to him)
